Our Services: Spanning the Quality Improvement Spectrum

Our 35+ years of organizational experience improving health care coupled with the advanced training and expertise of our staff allows us to offer a wide range of quality review and improvement services that can be quickly and flexibly adapted to meet the needs of our customers.  These include:

Data Collection and Analysis.
Our nationwide network of quality improvement consultants reviews medical records on- or off- site and electronically transmits information to WVMI for computerized analysis, allowing us to provide performance feedback to health professionals in "near real-time" intervals.

Data quality. WVMI is a leader in studying the quality, reliability and validity of health care data. Our data quality analysis systems are cutting-edge. Studies of data quality encompass the entire data stream, from the data entry operator's work incentives to collection, processing and analysis.

Evidence-based Guideline, Criteria and Indicator Development. Not only does WVMI abstract, analyze and feed back performance data to health professionals, but we also work with interdisciplinary groups of health care professionals to develop guidelines, criteria and indicators.

Quality Improvement. We work with providers of care to improve administrative and clinical delivery systems. We emphasize "rapid-cycle improvement," which greatly reduces the time from project initiation to improvement.

Utilization Management and Utilization Review. We offer more than 20 years of experience in developing and using appropriateness criteria to review medical interventions. Our utilization management abilities include prior-authorization, concurrent reviews, post-service evaluation and case management.

Medical and Peer Review. A network of board-certified physician reviewers in all specialties and nurse specialists support utilization management services and provide a valuable second opinion when patients or clinicians believe services are not being provided. WVMI review determinations are continually monitored for consistency and accuracy.

Audit and Validation Studies. WVMI reviews claims data and other records to validate and improve the quality of diagnostic and procedural coding. In addition, we are skilled at measuring regulatory compliance.

Health Education. We implement and evaluate preventive health projects with a consumer focus, identifying barriers and helping consumers to overcome them.
